Maine Families of Washington County offers a variety of free services to help your baby have the best possible start. Whether you are a first time parent or adding to your family, Maine Families is a great resource for those most important days in your child’s life.
Home Visiting
Our home visitors partner with you to:
- Help you plan for a healthy pregnancy
- Help you know what to expect at each stage of your child’s development
- Recognize your child’s developmental milestone accomplishments
- Help you navigate day-to-day parenting challenges
- Connect you with community resources
- Provide extra support during times of unexpected challenges
Breastfeeding Support
Our certified lactation counselors provide breastfeeding support to area moms. Our goal is to help you reach your breastfeeding goals.

Car Seat Safety Program
Free inspection and Installation Assistance
With all the different shapes and styles of car seats it’s so easy to miss a step here or there. We can help! Make an appointment to meet with one of our certified car seat safety technicians to check your child’s car seat. We can help you fit your seat snugly in your car and make sure you are comfortable knowing you have all the latches, harnesses, etc connected correctly for your child’s safety.
Free Car Seat Distribution Program
Through a program sponsored by the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety, we can provide free convertible and booster car seats for income eligible families (some restrictions apply). If you have ANY questions about child safety seats or the Bureau of Highway Safety’s Car Seat Distribution program visit the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety website for a list of inspection stations and car seat distribution sites throughout the state.
Free Car Seat Safety Training
The world of car seat safety is complex, we have two technicians on staff who will be happy to provide an in-service for your group or organization on car seat safety. We can provide a short overview, more in-depth training, car seat Q&As, installation demonstrations, and more. We will tailor our presentation to your organization’s needs.
