Children’s Library Programs

COVID-19 Update: All libraries are closed at this time, however there are many activities for kids and other great suggestions offered by the Washington County CAN Council and the facebook group Downeast Family Fun.


Your public library is a great place to find books and DVDs for your child. The following libraries offer story times and activities for you and your child to enjoy.  Please contact the library before planning your trip as times may change based on school schedules or the weather.

Baileyville — Woodland Public Library

Cherryfield — Cherryfield Public Library
Saturday Storytime  For preschool aged children.  Stories, a snack and coloring.  After the story hour is over children have free run of the library for play time.  This gives the children a chance to socialize without worrying about adults they don’t know in the building and gives parents a chance to visit with one another.

Machias — Porter Memorial Library
Saturday Morning Story Hour (Ages 0 – 6) 1st & 3rd Saturdays 11:00am – 12:00pm
Dog Days at the Library  Kids get to practice their reading skills by reading to Beau, a certified pet therapy dog. 2nd & 4th Saturdays, 11:00 – 12:00p
Kids Story Hour (for Grades 2 – 5)  Exploring our world through reading and activities in a guided reading hour with Diane Parker and therapy dog Beau. 1st & 3rd Tuesdays, 3:00 – 4:00p
